Dzhamilya Dagirova – curator, art historian, artist, designer, publisher.

d.o.b. in 1967, lives and works in Makhachkala (Republic of Dagestan).

She graduated from the Faculty of History of the Dagestan State University, worked at the Dagestan Museum of Fine Arts, where her future research and creative priorities were determined – the study and popularization of ancient folk art and professional fine art of Dagestan.

She stands at the origins of the establishment of the «First Gallery» (Republic of Dagestan, Kaspiysk), and is its director and curator. As the gallery owner and museum worker, she has created and held over 400 exhibitions, and is the author of major art studies. Her curatorial interests include fine arts of Dagestan, decorative and applied folk and professional art, history of art of Dagestan.

Her competences are: curator of art projects, museum and exhibition design, research activities, publishing practice, interdisciplinary art programs.

The major projects include the North Caucasus Biennale, the photo project «The Person of Caucasian Nationality», the expedition «Cultsanshturm II», the projects of contemporary art «ONA» (SHE), «Novaya Scena (New Scene)», «Mestorozhdenie (The Minefield)», «Kulturny Portret Cultural Portrait», the publishing series «New Dagestan Art History»(Collections of articles), encyclopedia «The Fine Arts of Dagestan. XX-XXI centuries».

She is an Honored Worker of Culture of the Republic of Dagestan, Member of the Union of Artists of the Russian Federation, Member of AIS, Member of ICOM. Art expert at the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation (fine arts of the 19th-20th centuries)
